Monzo Makes Splitting Bills Easier

Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
Splitting expenses has always been a social dilemma—one that often lingers in the form of awkward reminders and unpaid balances. Monzo is tackling this everyday challenge with its new Split Payments feature, designed to make tracking, requesting, and settling shared costs more seamless.
Previously, Monzo users could split bills directly from a transaction, setting amounts and sending requests to friends. Now, the updated feature expands on that foundation with two key options: Running Split for ongoing expenses like rent or group trips, and Single Split for one-off payments such as a dinner or taxi fare.
Users can create a shared tab, invite participants, and log expenses from various accounts and cards. Those on paid plans gain an added advantage—automated payments from connected accounts, reducing manual effort. To keep things smooth, Monzo also sends reminders, ensuring no one forgets their share.
“We know that chasing your mates when they owe money can be awkward, but that shouldn’t mean that people miss out on getting paid back,” says Andy Smart, Monzo’s CPO. The new system takes care of tracking, calculations, and gentle nudging—whether or not everyone in the group is a Monzo customer.
